SS: 20th CENTURY WORLD HISTORY 12 ​

​Prerequisite: Social Studies 10

This course will explore a global world in the 20th century, starting with the aftermaths of the First World War. The course will investigate concepts such as authoritarian regimes, civil wars, movements for independence, human rights movements, religious, ethnic, and cultural conflict. Global conflict, such as that seen in the First World War, Second World War, and Cold War, will also be covered. Other topics will be global migration, immigration, international cooperation, social change, and cultural change. The course will also explore mass consumption, technological advancement in communications, and developments in transportation technology. Good oral and written communication is a requirement for this course.

This course gives students an introduction to the legal system in Canada. Students learn how the legal system encourages people to be active members of their communities through legal rights and duties, how the legal system can bring about change but also how the legal system can support the existing social norms of the community. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, human rights codes, as well as the criminal and civil legal systems are covered.The students are required to go on a field trip to the Vancouver Law Courts, as well as participate in a mock trial.
SS: BC FIRST PEOPLES 12 ​

​Prerequisite: Social Studies 10

Through BC First Peoples 12, the diversity, history, and experiences of BC First Peoples will be explored. Students will also examine indigenous cultures, worldviews, and traditions, and analyze the ways that colonialism affected political, social, and economic systems. The course also looks at the ways in which First Peoples in BC have challenged colonialism and ways that they have sought to restore and renew their communities. Students will end the course considering the future challenges and possibilities on the road to reconciliation.

"This course meets the high school graduation requirement for completion of four credits in an Indigenous-focused course. It also satisfies the Social Studies 11 or Grade 12 elective requirements for individuals from the Province of British Columbia earning their high school diploma in September 2023 or later."

Psychology 12 is a very interesting course that allows students to gain a greater understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them. The course covers key areas in psychology such as the history of psychology, deviance, intelligence, group behavior, stress, personality, and disorders in psychology. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to think rationally about themselves and others while acquiring skills to become thoughtful and meaningful members in their own right. Psychology 12 opens a person's mind to a different way of understanding people's behavior as well as learning to be more understanding towards others.
